It was established in May 2015 following the reorganisation of the historic firm Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A. Shroff & Co., and is led by Cyril Shroff as Managing Partner. The firm traces its lineage to a legal practice founded in the early twentieth century by the Shroff family in Mumbai. The earlier partnership, Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A. Shroff & Co., was for several decades regarded as one of India's leading commercial law firms, with a long-standing presence in corporate advisory, banking and capital markets work.
After the death of senior partner Suresh A. Shroff in 1994, the firm continued under the leadership of his sons, Cyril Shroff and Shardul Shroff. In 2015, the brothers formally divided the practice. Cyril Shroff led the formation of Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, while Shardul Shroff established Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. as a separate firm.
Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas commenced operations in May 2015, retaining a substantial part of the lawyer base, client relationships and offices of the predecessor entity in western and southern India.
