Chakdaha (also spelt Chakdah) is a town and a municipality in the Nadia district of the Indian state of West Bengal. Situated on the eastern bank of the Hooghly River, it lies along the Kolkata–Lalgola railway corridor and serves as an administrative subdivisional headquarters within Nadia.

Chakdaha is located in the alluvial plains of southern Bengal, on the eastern bank of the Hooghly (Bhagirathi). The terrain is flat and largely agricultural, with paddy, jute and vegetables forming the main crops in surrounding rural areas. The town shares its riverine border with the Hooghly district to the west, while Ranaghat and Kalyani lie to its north and south respectively.
The town is administered by the Chakdaha Municipality, which manages local civic services such as water supply, sanitation, roads and street lighting. The municipality is divided into wards, each represented by an elected councillor. For police administration, Chakdaha falls under the Ranaghat Police District.
Chakdaha railway station is on the Sealdah–Ranaghat–Lalgola line of the Eastern Railway zone. It is a busy suburban station with frequent EMU local services connecting it to Sealdah in Kolkata, as well as to Ranaghat, Krishnanagar and Lalgola.
Chakdaha lies on or near State Highway connections linking Kalyani, Ranaghat and Krishnanagar. National Highway 12 (formerly NH 34), one of the principal road arteries of central Bengal, passes in the vicinity, providing road access towards Kolkata in the south and northern Bengal districts.
The local economy combines agriculture, retail trade and small-scale industry. The surrounding region is a notable producer of bananas, vegetables and rice, supplied to wholesale markets in Kolkata. The town hosts daily and weekly bazaars (haats), retail establishments, and small manufacturing and rice-processing units.
Chakdaha has a number of Bengali- and English-medium schools affiliated to the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education and the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education. Chakdaha College, affiliated to the University of Kalyani, offers undergraduate courses in arts, science and commerce. Health services are provided by a state general hospital along with private nursing homes and clinics.
The cultural life of Chakdaha reflects the broader Bengali traditions of Nadia district. Major festivals observed in the town include Durga Puja, Kali Puja, Saraswati Puja, Jagaddhatri Puja, Rash Yatra and Poila Boishakh. Nadia, of which Chakdaha is part, is historically associated with the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition founded by Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in nearby Nabadwip, and Vaishnava devotional practices remain culturally influential in the area.
The population is predominantly Bengali-speaking, with Hindus forming the majority and a Muslim minority. As with much of suburban Nadia, Chakdaha has experienced steady urbanisation owing to its proximity to Kolkata and good rail connectivity, with many residents commuting to the metropolitan region for work and education.
