Central University of Odisha (CUO), formerly known as Central University of Orissa, is a public central university located in Sunabeda town in the Koraput district of the Indian state of Odisha. The university was established by the Government of India through the Central Universities Act, 2009 (No. 3C of 2009), an Act of Parliament that created several new central universities across the country.
The university's territorial jurisdiction extends to the whole of the state of Odisha. As a central university, it functions under the legislative framework provided by the 2009 Act, which standardised the establishment and governance of such institutions in different states.
Situated in the Koraput region of southern Odisha, the university serves as one of the central institutions of higher education in the state. Its location in Sunabeda places it within an area known for its tribal heritage and natural surroundings.
