Divecha was part of the post-Independence generation of Indian cricketers who established themselves in domestic cricket through the Bombay side, one of the strongest teams in the Ranji Trophy. Like several Indian cricketers of his era, he furthered his cricketing education in England while studying at Oxford, gaining experience on English pitches that suited his medium-fast style.
At university level, Divecha earned his Blue at Oxford, appearing in University matches against Cambridge. He subsequently turned out for Middlesex in the County Championship, becoming one of the relatively small number of Indian cricketers to play county cricket during the 1950s.
In domestic Indian cricket, he represented Bombay in the Ranji Trophy. He was selected for India in Test cricket in the early 1950s, contributing as a seam bowler at a time when the Indian attack relied principally on spin.
Divecha is remembered as one of the early Indian seam bowlers in Test cricket and as part of the link between Indian and English first-class cricket through the Oxford and Middlesex connections. His career reflected the pathway taken by several cricketers from Bombay who combined education in England with high-level cricket.
