Cricket in Manipur has been administered by the Manipur Cricket Association, which was granted full membership of the BCCI in 2018. This decision, taken following the recommendations of the Justice R. M. Lodha Committee, allowed states from the North East — including Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Sikkim — to field senior teams in national tournaments such as the Ranji Trophy, the Vijay Hazare Trophy and the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Bishworjit Konthoujam is among the cricketers who emerged from this expanded structure to represent Manipur at the senior domestic level.
Konthoujam has appeared for Manipur in BCCI-organised senior tournaments. As with other players from newly inducted state teams, his early appearances coincided with Manipur's debut seasons in the Ranji Trophy and limited-overs national competitions, where the side competes in the Plate Group.
Players such as Konthoujam are part of the first generation of cricketers to represent Manipur in the Indian first-class system, contributing to the broadening of competitive cricket beyond traditional centres and into India's North Eastern region.
