BITS Pilani is one of India's leading private institutions of higher education, established in its present form in 1964 and granted deemed-to-be-university status. Over the decades, it has expanded beyond its original campus in Pilani, Rajasthan, by setting up campuses in Goa (Zuarinagar), Hyderabad, and an international campus in Dubai. The Mumbai campus represents a further extension of the BITS network into Maharashtra, one of India's most industrialised states and a major hub for technology, finance, and education.
The establishment of a BITS Pilani campus in Maharashtra is significant for several reasons:
Campuses within the BITS Pilani system follow a common academic framework, including a credit-based semester system, the flexibility of dual-degree programmes, and the institute's signature Practice School industrial training component. Admission across BITS campuses is conducted through the centralised BITSAT (BITS Admission Test).
