Bindyarani Devi hails from Manipur, a north-eastern state of India that has produced several internationally recognised weightlifters, including Kunjarani Devi and Mirabai Chanu. Like many of her contemporaries, she trained within the structured pathway provided by Indian weightlifting institutions and national camps before progressing to senior international competition.
At the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Bindyarani Devi won the silver medal in the women's 55 kg event. Her performance contributed to India's strong showing in weightlifting at the Games, where the country traditionally fares well, and added to the medal tally on the second day of competition.
Bindyarani Devi has also represented India at the senior Asian level and at Commonwealth-level championships in her weight category, competing in both the snatch and clean and jerk disciplines.
Her Commonwealth Games silver places her among the recent generation of Indian women weightlifters who have used the 49 kg, 55 kg and 59 kg categories to consistently win medals for India at major multi-sport events. The result also reinforced Manipur's reputation as a leading source of elite weightlifting talent in India.
