The station takes its name from the nearby town of Bindki, which is situated a short distance from the station premises. As a wayside halt on a major trunk route, Bindki Road provides connectivity to passengers travelling between Kanpur and Prayagraj (Allahabad), two important junctions on either side of the station.
The station handles passenger traffic primarily through stopping passenger services and selected express trains. It functions under the administrative control of the North Central Railway zone of Indian Railways. The Howrah–Delhi main line is fully electrified and double-tracked through this section, supporting both passenger and freight movement.
Bindki Road is the principal rail access point for residents of Bindki tehsil, linking the town to the broader regional and national rail network. Its position on a heavily trafficked corridor gives it access to a wide range of long-distance trains, although only a subset of these halt at the station.
