The station provides rail access to Bikkavolu, a town in the Godavari delta region known for its early medieval temples built during the rule of the Eastern Chalukyas. As an intermediate station on a busy trunk route connecting eastern and southern India, it primarily handles passenger and local services, while most express trains pass through without halting.
Bikkavolu is situated between the major junctions of Samalkot and Rajahmundry along the coastal trunk corridor that links Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Chennai. The station offers connectivity to nearby towns and cities including Anaparthi, Dwarapudi, Kakinada (via Samalkot) and Rajahmundry.
The station is generally served by passenger and MEMU trains operating along the Vijayawada–Visakhapatnam section. Facilities at the station are oriented towards local commuter traffic, with platforms catering to short-distance services on the route.
Apart from serving day-to-day commuter needs, the station functions as the nearest railhead for visitors travelling to Bikkavolu's heritage temples, including the Golingeswara Swamy temple complex, which is a protected monument associated with Eastern Chalukya temple architecture.
