The station forms part of the Kashmir Valley railway network developed by Indian Railways to connect the valley with the rest of the Indian rail system. The valley section, running broadly between Banihal in the south and Baramulla in the north, was constructed in phases as part of the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, a national project of the Ministry of Railways.
Bijbehara is served by passenger trains operating on the Kashmir Valley line, which link stations such as Banihal, Anantnag, Srinagar (Nowgam), Sopore and Baramulla. The line is operated under the Northern Railway zone of Indian Railways.
The station provides rail access to Bijbehara town and the surrounding rural areas of southern Kashmir, supporting passenger movement within the valley. It is one of several intermediate stations that have brought rail connectivity to the Kashmir region, an area historically dependent on road transport across the Pir Panjal range.
