The station lies on the broad gauge Nagda–Mathura line, a key route that links the Western Railway's Mumbai–Delhi corridor at Nagda Junction with the North Central Railway network at Mathura Junction. The line passes through Kota, one of the major junctions of the West Central Railway. Through this alignment, Bhawani Mandi is connected by rail to cities including Kota, Ratlam, Ujjain, Nagda, Mathura, New Delhi and Mumbai.
As a stop on a heavily used trunk route, Bhawani Mandi station handles passenger traffic for travellers from Jhalawar district and the surrounding region. The station also supports goods movement associated with the local agricultural economy, particularly the trade in coriander, soybean, garlic and other commodities for which Bhawani Mandi's mandi is known.
The station is administered under the Kota railway division of the West Central Railway zone, headquartered at Jabalpur. Train operations, ticketing and station maintenance fall under the jurisdiction of this division.
