Bharath Subramaniyam is an Indian chess player who earned the title of Grandmaster from the International Chess Federation (FIDE). A junior prodigy from Tamil Nadu, he is among the youngest Indian players to have crossed the Grandmaster threshold, continuing a tradition of strong junior chess output from the state that produced Viswanathan Anand.

Bharath was introduced to competitive chess at a young age and progressed through the age-group tournament circuit organised under the All India Chess Federation and FIDE. Like several of his contemporaries, his development took place against the backdrop of a strong coaching and tournament ecosystem in Chennai and across Tamil Nadu, which has emerged as one of the principal hubs of Indian chess.
Bharath earned international norms in classical chess events and successively achieved the FIDE titles of Candidate Master, FIDE Master and International Master before being awarded the Grandmaster title. His progression placed him among a growing cohort of Indian teenage Grandmasters that emerged in the early 2020s, alongside players such as Gukesh D, R. Praggnanandhaa, Nihal Sarin and Raunak Sadhwani.
He has competed in a range of formats, including classical, rapid and blitz, taking part in domestic championships, junior international tournaments and open events in Europe where Grandmaster norms are commonly achieved by Indian juniors.
