The station forms part of the first phase of the Mumbai Monorail, which connects Chembur with Wadala Depot. The corridor was conceived by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) as a feeder system intended to provide last-mile connectivity in areas where the existing suburban railway and road network did not extend efficiently.
Bhakti Park station is built as an elevated structure with side platforms, in line with the standard configuration adopted along the corridor. It is named after the Bhakti Park township developed in Wadala, one of the major catchment areas served by the station.
The Mumbai Monorail was developed by a consortium of Larsen & Toubro and the Malaysian firm Scomi Engineering, awarded the contract by MMRDA. The first phase, between Chembur and Wadala Depot, was inaugurated on 1 February 2014 and opened for public service on 2 February 2014, making it the first operational monorail in India in the modern era. Bhakti Park was among the seven stations commissioned as part of this phase.
The second phase, extending the line from Wadala to Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk in Jacob Circle, was opened in March 2019, integrating Bhakti Park as an intermediate station on the longer corridor.
The station is situated along the monorail alignment in Wadala, close to the Bhakti Park residential complex and the Eastern Freeway. It provides access to nearby destinations including Wadala, the IMAX Wadala area, and the developing Wadala Truck Terminal and business district. Adjoining the station is the Wadala Depot, which serves as the principal maintenance and stabling facility for the monorail rolling stock.
As part of the country's first modern monorail line, Bhakti Park station holds historical importance in the development of urban rail transit in India. The corridor was planned to relieve congestion on Mumbai's road network and to connect dense residential pockets in the eastern suburbs with the central business areas of south Mumbai.
