Belda is a small town in the Narayangarh CD block of Paschim Medinipur district. The station lies along the alignment that connects Kharagpur, a major junction in the South Eastern Railway, with stations further south towards Balasore and Bhadrak in Odisha. Its position on a national-level trunk route gives the town significant connectivity despite its modest size.
The station is administered under the South Eastern Railway zone of Indian Railways, with operational oversight typically falling under the Kharagpur railway division. It handles a mix of passenger services, with several express and mail trains halting here in addition to local passenger trains plying along the Kharagpur–Balasore section.
For the residents of Belda and adjacent rural areas of southern Paschim Medinipur, the station functions as the principal rail access point. It links the area to Kolkata, Kharagpur, Bhubaneswar and Chennai through trains running on the Howrah–Chennai corridor, supporting both daily commuting and longer-distance travel for trade, education and employment.
