Begumpet station is situated in a central commercial and residential area of Hyderabad, close to Greenlands, Ameerpet and Punjagutta. It is among the busier suburban stations in the city because of its proximity to office complexes, schools, hotels and the erstwhile Begumpet Airport site. The station handles a mix of MMTS local services and inter-city trains that halt between Secunderabad Junction and Hyderabad Deccan.
The station is positioned a short distance from Secunderabad Junction towards the west and connects onward to Hyderabad Deccan (Nampally) via the MMTS corridor. It is accessible by Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) buses, auto-rickshaws and private transport, and lies near the Begumpet metro corridor of the Hyderabad Metro Rail Red Line.
As a centrally located suburban halt, Begumpet plays an important role in daily commuter movement within the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. It is one of the stations that supports the MMTS project, which was developed jointly by the Government of Andhra Pradesh (later inherited by Telangana) and Indian Railways to ease urban congestion.
