Background and playing style

Webster is recognised as a versatile all-rounder. As a right-handed batter, he complements his batting with the unusual ability to send down both medium-pace seam and off-spin deliveries, giving captains an additional tactical option in both red-ball and white-ball formats.

Career

Webster represents Tasmania in Australian domestic cricket and turns out for the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League. His dual bowling capability came to wider attention during the 2020–21 Sheffield Shield season. Webster had taken up pace bowling as a new skill during the first lockdown period of the COVID-19 pandemic, adding it to his existing off-spin repertoire.

At the international level, Webster has gone on to represent Australia in Test cricket.

Significance

The combination of pace and spin bowling within a single player's skill set is uncommon in modern cricket. Webster's emergence with this dual ability has drawn comparisons with former Australian Test cricketers Colin Miller and Andrew Symonds, both of whom were known for being able to operate effectively with more than one bowling style.
