Barrackpore is a historic cantonment town on the eastern bank of the Hooghly River, situated to the north of Kolkata. The town developed around the British military cantonment established in the late 18th century and grew into one of the early urban centres of colonial Bengal. As part of this development, the area was served by railway lines connecting Sealdah and the northern suburbs along the Sealdah–Ranaghat corridor.
The Barrackpore Racecourse was one of several recreational facilities established for the British garrison and European residents during the colonial era. Stations and halts named after such facilities were common features along the suburban network of the period, intended to serve specific institutions, military establishments or events rather than as mainline traffic points.
The station is recorded as an abandoned railway station in West Bengal. It is no longer listed as an operational stop on suburban timetables, and rail traffic in the Barrackpore area is presently served by the operational Barrackpore railway station on the Sealdah–Ranaghat line.
The site is of interest primarily as a relic of the colonial-era transport infrastructure of the Barrackpore cantonment, reflecting how rail facilities were once tied to specific military and recreational uses. It forms part of the broader history of disused or repurposed stations along the suburban network around Kolkata.
