Its position away from the city core makes it accessible to passengers from the eastern and north-eastern suburbs of Bengaluru without requiring travel into the central rail terminals. The station has multiple platforms and basic passenger amenities including ticketing facilities, waiting areas and parking space.

Services

Banaswadi has been developed as a coaching terminal to decongest Bengaluru's principal stations. Several long-distance express trains, including services to Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and other parts of Karnataka, originate from or terminate at Banaswadi. The station also handles passing express and passenger services on the line connecting Bengaluru Cantonment with Yelahanka via Channasandra.

Significance

The development of Banaswadi as a satellite terminal forms part of a broader strategy by Indian Railways and the South Western Railway zone to distribute originating and terminating traffic across multiple stations within the Bengaluru metropolitan area. Along with Yesvantpur Junction, KSR Bengaluru City, Bengaluru Cantonment and Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna sub-terminals, Banaswadi contributes to easing terminal congestion and improving accessibility for residents of north-eastern Bengaluru. The station has also been identified as a node in proposals for suburban rail services in the Bengaluru region.
