Balaghat Junction railway station is a railway station serving the town of Balaghat, the headquarters of Balaghat district in the eastern part of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It lies on the Gondia–Jabalpur line and functions as a junction where the line connects with branch routes serving the surrounding region. The station is administered by the Indian Railways under the South East Central Railway zone.

The station is situated in Balaghat town, which lies in the Satpura range region of southeastern Madhya Pradesh, close to the state's border with Maharashtra. Balaghat district is known for its manganese mining, forest cover and proximity to the Kanha and Pench tiger reserves, and the railway station serves both passenger traffic and freight movement linked to mineral and forest produce.
Balaghat Junction lies on the Gondia–Jabalpur railway line, which runs through Balaghat, Katangi and Nainpur on its way between Gondia in Maharashtra and Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh. The line was historically part of the Satpura narrow gauge network, one of the largest narrow gauge systems in India, and has been progressively converted to broad gauge as part of the Indian Railways' Project Unigauge.
The station provides rail connectivity southwards to Gondia, where passengers can connect to the Howrah–Mumbai trunk route, and northwards to Nainpur and Jabalpur. Through these connections it links Balaghat with major destinations on the broader Indian Railways network.
The railway alignment serving Balaghat was originally constructed as part of the Satpura narrow gauge system developed under the Bengal Nagpur Railway in the early twentieth century. After Independence, operations passed to the South Eastern Railway and subsequently to the South East Central Railway, which was created in 2003 with its headquarters at Bilaspur.
The Gondia–Jabalpur section, including Balaghat, was taken up for gauge conversion from narrow gauge to broad gauge under successive railway plans. The conversion programme led to the suspension of narrow gauge services on the route and the eventual reopening of segments to broad gauge traffic, integrating Balaghat with mainline broad gauge operations.
As the principal railway station of Balaghat district, the junction is an important transport node for a largely rural and forested region. It supports the movement of agricultural produce, manganese ore and timber, and provides access for residents of the district to larger urban centres such as Jabalpur, Nagpur and beyond. The station is also used by visitors travelling to nearby tourist destinations including Kanha National Park.
