The station lies on the broad-gauge corridor north of Vadodara Junction, on the route connecting Vadodara with Ahmedabad. It functions primarily as a halt for local passenger services, while most express and mail trains pass through without stopping. The station is administered under the Vadodara railway division of the Western Railway zone.
Bajva is situated a short distance north of central Vadodara and is closely associated with the city's industrial estates. The area is home to manufacturing operations of major Indian chemical and fertiliser companies, and the station historically supported workforce movement to and from these units. Road connectivity to Vadodara city, the Vadodara–Ahmedabad National Highway, and nearby townships such as Chhani is available from the station precincts.
The station handles a limited number of passenger and MEMU services that link Vadodara with destinations such as Ahmedabad, Anand, and Godhra. Ticketing and basic passenger amenities are provided. As a wayside station, it does not serve as an originating or terminating point for long-distance trains.
While modest in scale, Bajva station is part of one of the busiest rail corridors in western India, the Mumbai–Ahmedabad main line, which carries heavy freight traffic and a high density of passenger services. Its role is mainly that of a suburban halt serving local commuters and industrial labour in the northern Vadodara region.
