The station lies along the North–South Corridor of the Lucknow Metro, which links Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in the south of the city with Munshipulia in the north. Badshahnagar is situated in the northern stretch of the corridor and serves a residential and commercial area in eastern Lucknow.
The station is built as an elevated structure, in keeping with most stations on the northern section of the line. It is designed with side platforms and offers standard metro amenities such as automatic fare collection gates, ticket counters, escalators, lifts and CCTV surveillance.
Badshahnagar metro station is located close to Badshahnagar railway station, an important suburban railway halt on the Lucknow–Gorakhpur route operated by the North Eastern Railway zone of Indian Railways. This proximity allows passengers to interchange between the metro and the suburban railway network, supporting last-mile connectivity for commuters from eastern Lucknow and surrounding districts.
The area around the station is served by city buses and auto-rickshaws, providing onward connectivity to localities such as Nishatganj, Mahanagar, Indira Nagar and Gomti Nagar.
Construction of the Lucknow Metro began after the formation of the Lucknow Metro Rail Corporation (later reorganised as UPMRC). The first commercial section, between Transport Nagar and Charbagh, opened in 2017. The full North–South Corridor, including Badshahnagar, was commissioned with the extension of services through the central and northern parts of the city, completing the 22.878 km stretch from the airport to Munshipulia.
As one of the stations in the densely built-up northern part of Lucknow, Badshahnagar serves a mix of residential neighbourhoods, government offices and educational institutions. Its integration with the adjacent railway station makes it a notable multimodal node within the city's public transport system.
