Badrinath is a town and nagar panchayat located in the Chamoli district of the state of Uttarakhand, India. Set in the Himalayan region, it is widely known as a Hindu holy place and draws pilgrims from across the country and abroad.
The town takes its name from the Badrinath Temple, which lies at the heart of its religious significance. In Hindu tradition, Badrinath is counted among the four principal pilgrimage sites that together form the Char Dham, a circuit of revered destinations spread across different parts of India.
In addition to its place in the all-India Char Dham, Badrinath is also part of the Chota Char Dham pilgrimage circuit within Uttarakhand. This regional circuit links several Himalayan shrines and forms an important component of the religious geography of the state.
