Badi Chaupar is the eastern terminus of Phase 1A of the Pink Line, which runs from Mansarovar in the south-west to Badi Chaupar in the heart of the old city. The station is built underground to preserve the heritage character of the walled city, which is part of the area inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage site for its 18th-century planned urban layout.
The first phase of the Jaipur Metro from Mansarovar to Chandpole was opened to the public in June 2015, becoming the sixth metro system to begin operations in India. The extension from Chandpole to Badi Chaupar, designated Phase 1A, involved tunnelling beneath the densely built bazaars and historic streets of the walled city, including the stretch through Chhoti Chaupar. Construction was carried out by Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation, a state public sector undertaking of the Government of Rajasthan, with civil works requiring careful engineering owing to the proximity of heritage structures.
The Chandpole–Badi Chaupar extension was opened for passenger service in 2020, completing Phase 1A of the corridor.
The station has an underground configuration, typically with the concourse on the upper level housing ticketing, security check, and customer facilities, and the platform level below. Trains operate in both directions from an island platform.
The station provides access to several landmarks of the walled city, including:
Onward connectivity is available through city buses operated by Jaipur City Transport Services Limited, autorickshaws and cycle rickshaws.
As the eastern terminal of the operational Pink Line, Badi Chaupar serves a high concentration of tourist destinations and traditional markets, making it one of the busier stations on the network during the visitor season. Its underground siting in the walled city is often cited as an example of integrating modern transit infrastructure with a historic urban fabric in India.
