Baddi lies in the foothills of the Shivalik range, close to the Himachal Pradesh–Haryana border, and is connected by road to Chandigarh, Panchkula and Solan. BUEST organises its teaching and research through faculties and schools that broadly cover:
Programmes are offered at the diploma, bachelor's, master's and doctoral (Ph.D.) levels. As a state private university, BUEST is empowered to confer its own degrees in accordance with the provisions of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Act.
The university is one of several private universities established in Himachal Pradesh after the state enacted enabling legislation for self-financed institutions. Its location within the BBN industrial belt gives it a distinctive industry-facing orientation, with curricula and training opportunities linked to pharmaceutical manufacturing, mechanical and electronic industries, and allied service sectors active in the region.
