Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, informally known as BBAU, is a Central University located in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. The institution is named after B. R. Ambedkar, the social reformer, polymath and principal architect of the Indian Constitution.
The university was established on 10 January 1996. As a Central University, it functions under the framework set by the Government of India for institutions of higher learning, offering teaching and research opportunities across various disciplines.
In addition to its main campus at Lucknow, the university operates a satellite campus at Amethi, which was established in 2016 by the Government of India. The Amethi campus extends the academic outreach of the university within Uttar Pradesh.
