B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology is a private deemed university located in Tamil Nadu, India. Founded in 1984, it was among the first self-financing engineering institutions established in the state of Tamil Nadu.
The institution was initially affiliated to the University of Madras and subsequently to Anna University for a period of around twenty-five years. It was later granted deemed-to-be-university status by the Government of India and came to be known as B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent University. Since 2017, the institution has been known by its current name, B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology.
Academically, Crescent is organised into twelve constituent schools, which together comprise eighteen departments covering a range of disciplines in science, engineering, and allied fields. The institute offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes through these schools and departments.
The institute is governed by its Board of Management, which oversees the overall administration. The Academic Council functions as the principal academic body and supervises the institute's academic policy. In addition, each department has a Board of Studies, composed of experts drawn from academia and industry, which deliberates upon and finalises the curriculum for the respective programmes.
