Asit Sen worked across both the Bengali film industry and the Hindi film industry based in Bombay (now Mumbai). He should not be confused with the filmmaker Asit Sen (director), a contemporary Bengali director who shared the same name and also worked in Hindi cinema.
Sen built a career as a character actor, appearing in numerous Hindi films through the mid-twentieth century. His large frame and distinctive voice made him a recognisable presence in comic and supporting parts, and he featured alongside many of the leading actors and directors of his era.
As a long-serving character artiste, Asit Sen represents a generation of supporting actors whose work helped shape the texture of mainstream Hindi cinema during its classical period. His filmography spans several decades, contributing to a wide range of mainstream productions.
