Arvind Deshpande (1932–1987) was an Indian actor associated with the Marathi and Hindi stage and screen. He was active during a period in which modern Indian theatre, particularly experimental Marathi theatre in Mumbai, was being shaped by a generation of actors, writers and directors who moved fluidly between stage and cinema.

Deshpande belonged to a generation of Indian performers whose careers spanned the decades following independence, when Indian theatre groups in cities such as Mumbai and Pune were exploring new dramatic forms, translations of world drama, and original work in regional languages. Actors of this period frequently combined work in repertory theatre with appearances in films and, later, television.
As an actor, Deshpande worked within the Indian performing arts milieu of the mid-twentieth century. His career predated the wide expansion of satellite television in India, and his work belongs primarily to the live-stage and film traditions of that era.
Performers from Deshpande's generation contributed to the development of a recognisably modern Indian acting style, drawing on classical Indian traditions, regional folk theatre, and influences from European realist and modernist drama. Their stage work in the 1960s and 1970s laid groundwork for later movements in Indian parallel cinema and contemporary theatre.
