Arun Govil is an Indian film and television actor best known for portraying the role of Lord Rama in Ramanand Sagar's television serial Ramayan, which originally aired on Doordarshan from 1987 to 1988. The series achieved record viewership across India and made Govil a household name. In 2024, he was elected to the 18th Lok Sabha as a Member of Parliament from the Meerut constituency in Uttar Pradesh on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket.

Arun Govil was born on 12 January 1958 in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He moved to Mumbai in the mid-1970s, initially intending to pursue a business career before turning to acting. He began his film career with the Hindi film Paheli (1977), directed by Prashant Nanda.
During the late 1970s and early 1980s, Govil appeared in a number of Hindi films in lead and supporting roles. His notable film appearances include Sawan Ko Aane Do (1979), Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin (1979), Itni Si Baat (1981), and Lal Chunariya (1983). He also worked in regional cinema during this period.
Govil's career-defining role came when Ramanand Sagar cast him as Rama in the television serial Ramayan. The series began telecast on Doordarshan on 25 January 1987 and concluded on 31 July 1988, comprising 78 episodes. The serial drew unprecedented audiences across India and made the entire principal cast iconic figures in Indian popular culture. Govil's portrayal of Rama earned him lasting public recognition, and he is often associated with the role in subsequent decades.
He also appeared in related mythological serials such as Luv Kush (1988), Vishwamitra, and Jai Mahalakshmi. During the COVID-19 lockdown of 2020, Doordarshan re-telecast Ramayan, which once again drew very high viewership and renewed public interest in Govil's work.
Arun Govil joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in March 2021. In the 2024 Indian general election, the BJP nominated him as its candidate from the Meerut Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh. He won the seat and entered the 18th Lok Sabha as a first-time Member of Parliament.
Govil is married to Shrilekha Govil, and the couple has two children. He has spoken publicly on several occasions about the cultural significance of the Ramayan serial and its impact on his life and career.
