The company was founded by Shobu Yarlagadda and Prasad Devineni, who lead its operations as producers. Arka Media Works has positioned itself as a studio producing technology-driven, visual-effects-heavy Indian films aimed at audiences across linguistic markets within India and overseas.
Arka Media Works produced the two-part epic Baahubali directed by S. S. Rajamouli. The first instalment, Baahubali: The Beginning, was released in 2015, followed by Baahubali 2: The Conclusion in 2017. Both films were shot simultaneously in Telugu and Tamil, and dubbed into Hindi, Malayalam and other languages, and became among the highest-grossing Indian films of their time.
The studio has also been involved in extending the Baahubali property beyond cinema through tie-ins such as the animated series Baahubali: The Lost Legends and associated merchandising and publishing collaborations.
Arka Media Works is widely credited with helping demonstrate the commercial viability of high-budget, pan-Indian visual-effects spectacles produced from the Telugu film industry. The success of the Baahubali films contributed to the broader emergence of Telugu cinema as a major force in the national box office and influenced subsequent large-scale productions across Indian language industries.
