Aggarwal began her career in modelling, working with leading Indian designers and appearing in print and runway assignments during the late 1980s. Her modelling work brought her to the attention of filmmakers in Mumbai, leading to her debut in mainstream Hindi cinema.
Her breakthrough came with Aashiqui, a romantic musical produced under the Vishesh Films banner of Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt. The film, in which she starred opposite Rahul Roy, was a major commercial success and is remembered for its soundtrack composed by Nadeem–Shravan. Following Aashiqui, she appeared in a small number of Hindi films and also took on work in regional and international productions during the early 1990s.
Aggarwal stepped back from mainstream film work in the mid-1990s and developed an interest in yoga and spirituality, later involving herself in wellness and writing. She authored a memoir reflecting on her years in the film industry and her personal journey, and has been associated with yoga-based public initiatives.
As the female lead of Aashiqui, Aggarwal is associated with one of the defining romantic films of Hindi cinema in 1990, a film that influenced the musical-romance template adopted by Bollywood through the decade. Her transition from modelling to film also reflected the growing crossover between the Indian fashion industry and Hindi cinema in that period.
