The Mumbai Monorail is India's first modern monorail system and was developed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to provide a feeder transit option in areas that are difficult to serve with conventional metro or suburban rail. The corridor on which Antop Hill station is located was conceived as a single line running broadly north–south through eastern Mumbai, linking dense residential and industrial pockets.
The station is situated in the Antop Hill area of the F-North ward of Mumbai, a locality known for its residential colonies, government housing, and proximity to the Eastern Express Highway and Wadala. It provides monorail access for residents of Antop Hill and surrounding neighbourhoods, complementing the suburban rail network of Mumbai's Central and Harbour lines.
Like other stations on the corridor, Antop Hill is an elevated station with platform-level access via staircases, escalators, and lifts from the concourse. The station is operated as part of the Mumbai Monorail under MMRDA's oversight, with services running between the two terminal stations of the line.
Antop Hill station forms part of the wider effort to expand mass transit options in Mumbai beyond the historic suburban rail system. By serving a neighbourhood that lies between major arterial corridors, it contributes to last-mile and intermediate connectivity in eastern Mumbai.
