Location and setting

The station lies in the eastern part of Nashik district, in a region that forms part of the northern Deccan plateau. It is named after the nearby Ankai Killa (Ankai Fort), a medieval hill fort that, together with the adjacent Tankai Fort, dominates the local landscape. The twin forts are historically associated with successive regional powers in the Deccan, including the Yadavas, the Bahmani and Nizam Shahi sultanates, the Mughals, and the Marathas.

Background

The station functions as a wayside halt on the railway corridor that links the Manmad junction area with stations further east. Manmad, a major railway junction in the same district, lies a short distance to the west and connects this section with the broader Indian Railways network across central and western India.

Significance

Although a small station, Ankai Killa serves as a convenient access point for residents of the surrounding villages and for visitors travelling to the Ankai–Tankai forts and the rock-cut Jain caves located on the hills near the village. Such intermediate stations play a role in providing rural connectivity in the Nashik region and supplementing road-based transport to remote settlements.
