Anjangaon is situated in the western part of Amravati district, in the agricultural belt of the Vidarbha region. The surrounding countryside is part of the Tapi–Purna basin and is largely devoted to dryland and irrigated farming. The town is connected by road to Amravati, Akola and Achalpur, the nearest larger urban centres.
The town functions as the administrative seat of Anjangaon Surji taluka, one of the subdivisions of Amravati district. Civic services within the town are handled by a municipal council, while the taluka administration looks after the surrounding villages. For parliamentary representation, the area falls within constituencies allocated to Amravati district.
The local economy is predominantly agrarian. Cotton is a leading crop in the wider region, alongside soybean, tur (pigeon pea), wheat and jowar. The town hosts an agricultural produce market (krushi utpanna bazar samiti) which serves as a trading point for cultivators from surrounding villages. Small-scale ginning, oil pressing and trade-based enterprises form part of the local commercial activity.
Anjangaon is linked by state highways to other towns of the Amravati and Akola districts. State transport buses operated by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation provide regular connectivity. The nearest major rail junctions and airports are located at Amravati and Akola.
The population is predominantly Marathi-speaking, with Hindi also widely understood and used in trade. The town has a mixed religious composition typical of towns in Vidarbha, with Hindus forming the majority and significant Muslim, Buddhist and Jain communities.
Anjangaon has primary and secondary schools run by the Zilla Parishad of Amravati and by private trusts, along with junior colleges offering arts, science and commerce streams. Higher education institutions in the town are affiliated to Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University.
