|---|---|
| Nationality | Indian |
| Occupation | Actress, filmmaker |
| Industry | Kannada cinema |
| Notable family | Daughter of Girish Kasaravalli (filmmaker) and Vaishali Kasaravalli (actress and academic) |
Ananya was raised in a household closely linked to Karnataka's literary and cinematic culture. Her father, Girish Kasaravalli, is a multiple National Film Award–winning director known for works such as Ghatashraddha, Tabarana Kathe, Thaayi Saheba and Dweepa. Her mother, Vaishali Kasaravalli, has worked as an actress and theatre practitioner. This background shaped her early exposure to art-house and socially engaged filmmaking.
Ananya has worked both in front of and behind the camera. Apart from acting assignments in Kannada productions, she has directed independent work that draws on themes of identity, gender and tradition. Her directorial film Harikatha Prasanga (also known as Chronicles of Hari) explored the life of a male performer in the female-impersonation tradition of Yakshagana, and was screened at film festivals in India and abroad.
As a second-generation contributor to Kannada cinema from the Kasaravalli family, Ananya represents continuity in the tradition of regional, author-driven Indian filmmaking. Her work has been noted for engaging with classical performing arts and questions of gender within the framework of independent cinema.
