The station forms part of the northern stretch of Line 2 of the Mumbai Metro, a corridor that runs broadly along the suburban arterial network connecting Dahisar in the north with the western and central portions of the city. Like other stations on the line, Anand Nagar is built as an elevated structure above the road below, with concourse and platform levels accessible by staircases, escalators and lifts.
Line 2 of the Mumbai Metro was conceived as a high-capacity rapid transit corridor to ease congestion on the parallel road and suburban rail systems in the western suburbs. The line is implemented by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and is divided into two operational segments: Line 2A from Dahisar (East) to D. N. Nagar, and Line 2B from D. N. Nagar to Mandale. Anand Nagar lies on the Line 2A section.
The station provides metro connectivity to residential pockets and commercial establishments in and around Anand Nagar, reducing dependence on road-based transport along this section of the suburbs. It contributes to the integrated multi-modal transit framework of the metropolitan region by feeding passengers into the wider Mumbai Metro network.
