AIB typically offers a range of programmes in the biotechnology stream, including:
The institute undertakes research in molecular biology, genomics and proteomics, plant tissue culture, environmental biotechnology, medical biotechnology, and computational biology. Faculty and research scholars publish in peer-reviewed journals and participate in funded projects supported by Indian science agencies such as the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), the Department of Science and Technology (DST), and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
Amity University, of which AIB is a constituent unit, is a private university system established in India in the early 2000s. The Noida campus, where the biotechnology institute has a significant presence, lies in the National Capital Region. The institute operates alongside other specialised Amity institutes covering engineering, nanotechnology, pharmacy, and management.
As one of the larger private-sector biotechnology teaching units in India, AIB contributes to higher education capacity in the life sciences, an area identified by the Government of India as strategically important through initiatives of the Department of Biotechnology and the National Biotechnology Development Strategy.
