Ghia was a leading figure in Indian women's badminton during a period when the sport was gaining wider recognition in the country. She competed in both singles and doubles and was a regular member of the Indian contingent at international events organised under the Badminton Association of India (BAI).
At the 1978 Commonwealth Games held in Edmonton, Ghia partnered Kanwal Thakar Singh in the women's doubles event and won a bronze medal. The result was a milestone for Indian women's badminton at a multi-sport international meet.
Ghia was a multiple-time medallist at the Senior National Badminton Championships in both women's singles and women's doubles categories. She was part of a generation of Indian women players that also included Kanwal Thakar Singh and, later, Madhumita Bisht, who carried Indian women's badminton through the late 1970s and 1980s.
The 1978 Commonwealth Games doubles bronze is widely cited as a foundational result for Indian women's badminton, predating later international successes by Indian women players. Ghia's career is often referenced in surveys of Indian badminton history alongside contemporaries such as Prakash Padukone and Syed Modi, who dominated the men's game in the same era.
