During the first half of the twentieth century, several small private carriers operated in British India and in the years immediately following Independence. Many of these airlines were short-lived, often confined to specific regional routes, and were eventually absorbed, suspended operations, or were affected by the nationalisation of Indian air transport under the Air Corporations Act, 1953, which consolidated scheduled airline operations into Air India and Indian Airlines.
Ambica Airlines is remembered as part of the broader history of pre-consolidation Indian civil aviation, a period marked by numerous small operators that contributed to the early development of domestic air services in the subcontinent.
