The Nagpur Metro is operated by the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro), a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Maharashtra. The system comprises two principal corridors: the Orange Line, running north–south, and the Aqua Line, running east–west. Ambedkar Square station lies on the Aqua Line, which connects the eastern and western parts of Nagpur and intersects the Orange Line at Munje Square interchange.
The station is situated near Ambedkar Square, a busy intersection in central Nagpur. As with most stations on the Nagpur Metro, it is built as an elevated structure above the road, with side platforms serving trains in either direction. Standard passenger amenities include ticket counters, automatic fare collection gates, escalators, lifts and concourse-level facilities.
By serving an established commercial and residential area along the east–west axis of Nagpur, Ambedkar Square station contributes to the metro's role in easing road congestion and providing organised public transport in the city. Its location at a named civic junction also makes it a recognisable wayfinding point on the network.
