Lamba began her public life through student politics at the University of Delhi, where she was active in the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Indian National Congress. She rose to become the national president of the NSUI in the mid-1990s, a position that brought her national visibility within Congress youth politics.
After her tenure with the NSUI, Lamba continued within the Congress organisation, taking on responsibilities at the national level and remaining engaged with party activities in Delhi. She contested elections on a Congress ticket during this period.
Lamba joined the Aam Aadmi Party and was fielded from the Chandni Chowk constituency in the Delhi Legislative Assembly election of 2015, which she won, entering the Delhi Assembly as an MLA. During her term, she was associated with several legislative committees and represented her constituency in central Delhi, an area covering parts of the historic walled city.
Lamba later parted ways with the Aam Aadmi Party and rejoined the Indian National Congress. Subsequent to her return, she was appointed president of the All India Mahila Congress, the women's wing of the party, and has since acted as a spokesperson for the party on various national issues.
Lamba's career traces the trajectory of a politician who moved from student activism into electoral politics in the National Capital Territory of Delhi. Her tenure as MLA from Chandni Chowk placed her among the women legislators in the Delhi Assembly during the AAP-led government formed after the 2015 election. Her later leadership of the Mahila Congress reflects a continuing focus on women's political participation within the Congress framework.
