The series was conceived as a contemporary television adaptation of the Aladdin legend, drawing from the popular Arabian Nights tradition that has inspired numerous Indian films, theatre productions, and television shows. Peninsula Pictures, the production banner behind the series, developed the show with elaborate sets, visual effects, and costumes to depict the magical world of genies, sorcerers, and the city of Baghdadia.
The narrative follows Aladdin, a young, street-smart thief in Baghdadia, who unexpectedly comes into possession of a magic lamp inhabited by a powerful genie known as Genie or Jinn. Aladdin's life intertwines with that of Yasmine, the princess of the kingdom, while he is forced to confront a series of antagonists, including the sorcerer Zafar, who covets the lamp's power. The story explores themes of love, friendship, identity, and good versus evil.
The series later introduced new leads in subsequent seasons, with the storyline evolving to incorporate fresh characters and supernatural threats.
The show was shot largely on constructed sets designed to evoke a fictional Arabian-style city, with significant use of CGI for sequences involving the genie, magic carpet, flying objects, and combat with sorcerers. The costume and art direction drew on Mughal and West Asian aesthetic influences blended with fantasy elements.
The series aired on Sony SAB and was made available for digital streaming on SonyLIV.
The show was among the prominent fantasy-genre programmes on Indian television in the late 2010s, a period that saw a revival of mythological and fantasy serials such as Baalveer and Vighnaharta Ganesh on the same network. Its young leads, Siddharth Nigam and Avneet Kaur, gained significant popularity among teenage viewers, and their on-screen pairing contributed to the show's prominence on social media platforms. The series is often cited as part of Sony SAB's broader pivot during this period to combine its traditional comedy slate with family-oriented fantasy storytelling.
