The station is situated in the rural belt north of Kolkata, between the stations on the suburban corridor that connects the city with Bangaon near the India–Bangladesh border. The surrounding region is largely agricultural, and the station primarily caters to local commuters travelling to Kolkata and to intermediate towns along the line.
Akaipur is served by Kolkata suburban EMU local trains operating on the Sealdah–Bangaon section. As a halt-class station on a busy commuter route, it does not handle long-distance express services; passengers requiring such services typically board them at larger junction stations such as Bangaon Junction or Sealdah.
The Sealdah–Bangaon line is one of the principal suburban corridors of the Kolkata suburban railway network. The line runs broadly northward from Sealdah through stations including Dum Dum Junction, Barasat, Habra and Gobardanga before terminating at Bangaon. The corridor is fully electrified and double-tracked over most of its length, supporting a high frequency of EMU services.
Although a minor station, Akaipur forms part of the dense suburban rail network that supports daily movement of commuters, students and traders between rural North 24 Parganas and the Kolkata metropolitan area. Stations of this scale are integral to the suburban system, providing accessibility to villages that lie away from major road corridors.
