Nishad entered electoral politics as a candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was elected to the 16th Lok Sabha from the Muzaffarpur parliamentary constituency in the 2014 general election, defeating his nearest rival.
He was re-elected from Muzaffarpur in the 2019 general election to the 17th Lok Sabha, continuing as the BJP's representative from the constituency. During his tenure, he served on various parliamentary committees associated with the functioning of the Lok Sabha.
Muzaffarpur is one of the prominent parliamentary constituencies of north Bihar, encompassing parts of Muzaffarpur district. The seat has historically seen contests involving leaders from the Nishad community, the Indian National Congress, the Janata Dal family of parties, and the BJP.
