Ajay Kumar Singh is an Indian politician from the state of Bihar. He has served as a member of the Bihar Legislative Council, the upper house of the bicameral state legislature of Bihar. He is associated with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), a regional political party founded by Lalu Prasad Yadav in 1997.

Background

The Bihar Legislative Council, in which Singh has served, is one of the few surviving Vidhan Parishads in India. Its members are elected through a mix of constituencies, including the Legislative Assembly, local authorities, graduates, teachers, and nominations by the Governor. Membership in the Council is generally for a six-year term, with one-third of the seats coming up for renewal every two years.

Political affiliation

The Rashtriya Janata Dal, with which Singh is associated, has been one of the principal political forces in Bihar since the late 1990s. The party draws much of its electoral base from the state's Other Backward Classes and Muslim communities, and has periodically led or partnered in coalition governments in Bihar.
