Agarpara is one of the suburban stops between Sealdah and Naihati/Ranaghat in the northern fringes of the Kolkata metropolitan area. It primarily handles Kolkata Suburban Railway services operated by Eastern Railway, catering to daily commuters travelling to and from central Kolkata.
The station lies in Agarpara, a neighbourhood that falls within the jurisdiction of the North Dum Dum Municipality and adjoining urban areas in North 24 Parganas. The locality is situated on the eastern bank of the Hooghly river and forms part of the densely populated industrial-residential belt north of Kolkata. Nearby stations on the same line include Sodepur towards the north and Belghoria towards the south.
Agarpara is served by EMU local trains of the Sealdah suburban network. Typical services pass through to and from terminals such as Sealdah, Naihati, Ranaghat, Kalyani, Krishnanagar and Shantipur. The station is not a regular halt for long-distance express or mail trains, which use the same corridor.
The station has platforms serving the up and down lines of the Sealdah Main electrified suburban section. The Sealdah–Ranaghat route is electrified on 25 kV AC overhead traction, in line with the rest of the Eastern Railway suburban network around Kolkata.
As with other stations on the Sealdah Main Line, Agarpara plays a routine but important role in the daily mobility of commuters from the northern suburbs of Kolkata, supporting workforce movement to commercial and administrative centres in the city.
