Adil Rashid

Overview

Adil Usman Rashid (born 17 February 1988) is an English cricketer who represents England in One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket, and previously played for the Test side between 2015 and 2019. A right-arm leg break bowler, he is widely regarded as one of the finest limited-overs English spinners of all time. In domestic cricket, he plays for Yorkshire, and has appeared in several Twenty20 leagues around the world.

Career

Rashid made his ODI and T20I debuts in 2009. He went on to play Test cricket for England from 2015 to 2019, before focusing on the white-ball formats in which he has been a mainstay of the national side.

At domestic level, he represents Yorkshire and has additionally featured in multiple franchise Twenty20 competitions.

International achievements

Recognition

In 2023, Rashid was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in King Charles III's Birthday Honours list, in recognition of his services to cricket.

Rashid's leg-spin has been central to England's white-ball success in the late 2010s and early 2020s, a period in which the team won both the 50-over and 20-over world titles. His record tally of T20I wickets and his standing among English spin bowlers underline his role as a leading limited-overs specialist of his generation.
