Thanglura belonged to the generation of Mizo public figures born in the colonial era who took part in public affairs during the formative decades of modern Mizoram. His lifetime spanned several major political transitions in the region, including the reorganisation of Assam, the Mizo National Front uprising of 1966, the creation of the Union Territory of Mizoram in 1972, the Mizoram Peace Accord of 1986, and the attainment of full statehood in 1987.
As an Indian politician active in Mizoram, Thanglura was part of the political class that shaped the early institutional development of the territory. Politicians of this cohort were typically associated with the Indian National Congress, the Mizo Union, the Mizo National Front, or the People's Conference, the principal political formations contesting elections in Mizoram in the second half of the twentieth century.
