Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College and Hospital, commonly referred to as A. N. Magadh Medical College or ANMMC, is a government medical college located in Gaya, Bihar, India. It is one of the prominent state-run medical institutions in the Magadh region of Bihar and serves a significant role in providing medical education as well as healthcare services to the population of Gaya and the surrounding districts. The college is named in honour of Anugrah Narayan Sinha, a distinguished freedom fighter, social reformer, and the first Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, who is widely remembered as the "Bihar Vibhuti."
The institution is affiliated with Aryabhatta Knowledge University, Patna, and its academic and clinical programmes are governed under the regulations of the National Medical Commission of India. As a government institution, it operates under the administrative oversight of the Government of Bihar's Health Department.
The college was established to address the growing demand for medical education and healthcare infrastructure in the Magadh division of Bihar, a region that historically had limited access to tertiary medical facilities. Gaya, being one of the major cities of Bihar and an important pilgrimage destination, necessitated the development of a robust public health institution capable of catering to both urban and rural populations.
Over the decades, the institution has expanded its academic departments, clinical facilities, and postgraduate programmes, gradually evolving into a comprehensive medical teaching hospital. The attached hospital functions as a major referral centre for patients from Gaya, Aurangabad, Nawada, Arwal, and other adjoining districts.
A. N. Magadh Medical College offers the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree as its primary undergraduate programme. Admission to the MBBS programme is conducted through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG), which is the centralised medical entrance examination mandated by the National Medical Commission for all medical colleges across India. Seats are allocated through the state counselling process managed by the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (BCECEB).
The college also offers postgraduate medical education in select clinical and non-clinical specialities, leading to the Doctor of Medicine (MD) and Master of Surgery (MS) degrees. Postgraduate admissions are conducted through NEET-PG, the national-level entrance examination for postgraduate medical courses.
The academic curriculum follows the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) framework introduced by the National Medical Commission, which emphasises clinical skills, professional ethics, and community health alongside theoretical knowledge.
The attached Anugrah Narayan Magadh Medical College Hospital is an integral component of the institution, providing the clinical training environment for medical students and postgraduate residents. The hospital operates multiple departments including General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Radiology, Anaesthesiology, and Pathology, among others.
As a government hospital, it provides subsidised and free medical services to patients from economically weaker sections of society. The hospital receives a substantial volume of emergency and outpatient cases, giving students and residents exposure to a wide variety of clinical presentations. The institution also supports community health outreach programmes and participates in national health missions implemented by the Government of Bihar and the Government of India.
The campus houses teaching blocks, lecture theatres, dissection halls, laboratories, a central library, and residential accommodation for students, faculty, and staff. The library maintains a collection of medical textbooks, journals, and digital resources to support academic and research activities. Hostel facilities are available separately for male and female students.
Eligibility for MBBS admission requires candidates to have completed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as core subjects and to have qualified in NEET-UG. State quota seats are filled through Bihar state counselling, while a proportion of seats fall under the All India Quota managed centrally by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC).
Students at A. N. Magadh Medical College participate in academic societies, cultural events, and sports activities organised within the campus. The institution observes national health days and conducts awareness camps in collaboration with district health authorities. Student associations facilitate peer learning, community engagement, and extracurricular development throughout the academic year.
