Background

The school was set up to bring the pedagogical model of the French Écoles Centrales to India. The Groupe des Écoles Centrales comprises engineering grandes écoles based in Paris, Lyon, Lille, Nantes, Marseille and Casablanca, and is known for a generalist approach to engineering education that combines strong fundamentals in science, mathematics and engineering with project-based learning and industry exposure.

The institution was originally launched as a standalone engineering college under the Mahindra Educational Institutions banner. It was later subsumed into Mahindra University when the latter was established as a state private university in Telangana, becoming the university's principal engineering school.

Academics

The school offers Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programmes across major branches of engineering, including computer science and engineering, electronics and communication engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, and electrical engineering, along with newer areas such as artificial intelligence, data science, and computation and mathematics. Postgraduate programmes include M.Tech and doctoral (Ph.D) research streams.

The curriculum draws on the Centrale model, emphasising a common foundational core in the early semesters followed by specialisation, supplemented by laboratory work, design projects and internships. Student exchange and dual-degree opportunities with the partner Centrale schools in France form a notable feature of the programme.

Campus

The school operates from the Mahindra University campus at Bahadurpally on the northern outskirts of Hyderabad. The campus houses academic blocks, engineering laboratories, hostels and sports facilities shared with the university's other schools.

Significance

The school is among a small number of Indian engineering institutions established through structured academic partnerships with the French Écoles Centrales network, alongside similar collaborations elsewhere in India. It represents one of the Mahindra Group's principal investments in higher education and contributes to Hyderabad's profile as a centre for engineering and technology education.
